The Marco Bay Yacht Club celebrated its time-honored Presentation of the Fleet in Smokehouse Bay on Saturday morning, February 5th. We had 21 boats that participated in the event on a bright blue-sky day with each boat passing in review of the Bridge boat and the Past Commodores’ boat.
The program began with the National Anthem, followed by a brief history of the Club and we were honored to have our Club Chaplin, Alan Sandlin, lead us in our invocation and Blessing of the Fleet. The Club observed a moment of silence in memory of our members that died during the past year. Following that moment of silence roses were placed in the water to recognize the passing of Carol Boland, Joan Walsh and Alan Johnson, as well as an additional rose in memory of those that have died throughout the history of the Marco Bay Yacht Club. The Club wishes to acknowledge and thank Barry and Claudette Gelfand for providing their boat, My Turn, to serve as the Bridge Boat and also thanks Joe and Vicki Herrin for providing their boat, Our Lady, to serve as the Past Commodores’ Boat. We also extend our thanks to the dockmasters at The Esplanade for their assistance in docking the 21 boats that participated. Following the Presentation of the Fleet ceremony, the Club members, both those that were on boats and those that participated from shore, gathered for lunch at CJ’s on the Bay. A total of 104 Club members enjoyed lunch and shared nautical stories with each other. Commodore Brent Cook welcomed the membership and expressed his appreciation to all of the boaters that participated in this annual Club event. Fleet Captain Ginny Rapp followed with a brief outline of cruise events for the remainder of the season and Past Commodore Joe Doggett whipped up the crowd in anticipation of our Captain Hook’s Pig Roast that will be at Calusa Marina on February 12th. Our thanks to Betty Barter for filling in on name tag patrol in the absence of Cea Horton. Betty collected a ton of money, starting with the Commodore, who in all the hubbub of getting ready for the event, walked out of the house without his own name tag. Once again, Marco Bay Yacht Club demonstrated why…. We’re The Fun Club! |
