Captain Hook's Pig Roast

February 11, 2012
by

On Saturday, February 11th, 74 pirates and wenches gathered for their 2nd Annual Captain Hook’s Pig Roast.  As in 2011, the windy weather presented a challenge for the 20 boats that had signed up to make the cruise to the Calusa Marina but about 6 hearty captains and crew did make it by boat, with the rest of the pirates coming by land yacht.
Just before noon the weather cleared and the pig was ready, along with slaw, beans, chips and pickles so everyone dug in for a hearty good meal.  From the leftovers, it appears the pirates really liked the pork.  While everyone brought their own drink, there was hardly a drunken pirate to be found, although some might have thought Jack Barter must have been drunk to come as a transvestite pirate……whoever heard of such a thing anyway!  Captain Bly must have been turning over in his grave. . .
Following lunch Captain Dave Besuden led the pirates and wenches in his annual game ritual with a bottle of Captain Morgan Rum going to the first place winners in the egg toss, three-legged race, best waiter/waitress, best putter, and the hula-hoop contest, which was won for the 5th consecutive year by wench, Susan Cook.
The day turned out beautiful and the event was a wonderful success! Thanks to all who joined in to make it so!
