First Mates at Rookery Bay Environmental Center
On Wednesday, February 4th thirteen of us had a very interesting visit to Rookery Bay. We began with a tour of the Educational Center. We learned about the natural habitat of this area and everything they are doing to protect and restore it. One of the highlights is an aquarium that shows how the mangroves grow and many of the creatures that live around them.
After our tour of the Educational Center we went on a nature walk with another great tour guide. It was fascinating to learn all about the three different types of Mangroves. There were, of course, many other types of plants and trees to discover.
When the tour was over most of us enjoyed lunch in the sunshine at Island Gypsy.
