Monday Madness December 2021

Twas two days after Christmas that members of MBYC gathered, in perfect Chamber of Commerce weather, at the Star Bar of CJ’s on the Bay for the final Monday Madness of 2021.  In spite of the fact that many of us had family in town or other obligations, 22 members were in attendance. It was great to welcome new members Robert and Jean Taylor.  We also were happy to see George and Carol Engstrom and learn that they were renewing their membership.  As usual, friends were busy catching up on events past and planned, and enjoying the beautiful evening.  Monday Madness is the ideal forum for establishing new friendships and developing lifelong relationships.  It is a key membership benefit/opportunity that we encourage you to enjoy on a regular basis. Looking forward to seeing you for the January Madness on Monday January 31, 2022.

See Y’all there!!

South Seas/Legacy Cruise Trip Report

On November 11th four boats set sail on a three-hour cruise but Gilligan wasn’t with us. Cookin’ (Brent & Susan Cook), My Cherie (Jerry & Cherie Hoover), Hoosier Daddy IV (Dave & Jackie Cox) and Karine (Sandy LaMontagne with Captain Rusty) departed Marco for South Seas Marina on Captiva.

It was a great cruise with good food at Old Captiva House, The Green Flash, Harborside Restaurant, Doc Fords and Key Lime Bistro along with a couple of visits to Scoops Ice Cream Shop.

The highlight of our visit to South Seas was the golf cart we rented was stolen from the marina parking lot. Security said it happens a lot but they always recover them because it is an island. Sure enough the next day it was recovered at the Tennis Villas.

On the 15th our flotilla moved to Legacy in downtown Ft Myers for a great three nights again hitting all of our favorite eating places including The Veranda, Firestone and Fords.

I guess the highlight of this stop was Sandy bought a new Electric Bicycle to replace the one she had that went in the “drink” on her trip down from Boston.

We always have a “boat-load” of fun on these cruises so plan to join us sometime this season.

Monday Madness November 2021

Monday Madness

A good crowd was on hand for Monday Madness at CJs on the Bay at the Esplanade. The CJ’s staff always works hard to accommodate our group and we do appreciate their attention.

It was a beautiful afternoon with a gorgeous early sunset before we headed out for the evening. Sally Orth won the $50 big prize for the 50/50 raffle. We raised $75 for the club.

Holiday Party 2021

Marco Princess

On Sunday afternoon on December 5th the Marco Bay Yacht Club filled the entire Marco Princess for a sunset cruise dinner. We were so lucky to have the whole boat for the club’s use. People could go up and down stairs between decks and hang out on the after deck. We sailed from Rose Marina and made our way up the river to Smokehouse Bay then traveled out to the end of Tigertail beach to view sunset.

The day and evening weather was fantastic. The company was great. The food was delicious. Several members commented on how many years it had been since they had taken the cruise and how nice it was to reconnect with old friends.

Bonnie Pilat chaired the event with help from Nancy Taylor, Linda Gagnon, and Margi White. As usual, Bonnie outdid herself making nametags and special favors for all to take home.

Many thanks to Sally Orth for making a gorgeous center piece Christmas tree in a glass ornament for the grand raffle prize. Congratulations to Susan Cook the grand prize winner.

Anyone donating to Toys for Tots was eligible to participate in the raffle. We raised almost $2000 for the children. Thank all for their generous donations to a worthy cause.

Welcome Back – Welcome Aboard Party

On November 7th at the Lely Players Club, 71 of our members came together for a Caribbean themed Gala event which included dinner, dancing, and raffles. This New Member/Welcome Back dinner was the first major club event in almost two years. It was also the first combined event, as we welcomed 14 new members, 5 who joined us that evening. Our new members are:

Chris and Anna Hutchings
Jean and Jenny Henzel
Jan and Larry Gates
Dave and Jackie Cox
Jim Barker and Kelly Rogers
Dave Hodgkinson and Maureen Camera
Robert and Jean Taylor
We also welcome back John and Mary Moyer, as they have rejoined the club.

First Mate Margi White and her social committee, Bonnie Pilat and Nancy Taylor, worked very hard to make this a special and memorable event. Thanks to the Pilats (Stan and Bonnie) who own a home at Lely, there was no rental fee for the facility. Bonnie is a very talented artist who made all of the favors and decorations, including a spectacular tropical flower arrangement on the buffet table and pineapple beach goers arrangement on display. The centerpieces were her creation with tiki vases and flowers. The message in a bottle at each place setting would determine the winner of each centerpiece. A message with the mermaid on it designated the lucky winners.  We danced to a great mix of oldies and Caribbean music played by DJ Jay. Lely staff was most accommodating and there were many compliments on the food and service.

Congratulations to Linda Sandlin, winner of the grand prize raffle.

At our Annual Business Meeting held at this event, Charlie Erker was elected as our next Rear Commodore and Stan Pilat, Paul Schneeberger, John Taylor and Dave Cox were elected to Director’s positions for 2023 and 2024

360 Market Luncheon Cruise

Marco Bay Yacht Club travels to Market 360

With 8 boats and more than 40 people the Marco Bay Yacht Club landed at a most unique destination for one of their monthly “day trips” at Market 360, an outstanding restaurant in Naples that is accessible by boat or car, best known for selling wine at $3.60 above cost. Thanks to Bob Tuttle’s planning and Barry Gelfand’s ‘leading the pack’ the boats wound their way into the back waters off of Naples Bay.

Monday Madness Summer 2021

We don’t have images from all of the summer Monday Madness events. However we did manage to capture a few images from most of them.

Many of the our year around members took the occasion of the hot summer months to head to parts unknown to visit family and friends while others decided to explore the world visiting places like the exotic Greek isles and Iceland, in spite of all the COVID restrictions.

It appears that some of our winter members decided to come south earlier this year to get away from lockdowns in their home state.  PC Brent Cook made it back for the September Madness.

We’re looking forward to a great turnout for the next Madness to be held this coming Monday October 25, 4:30 PM, same venue.

Monday Madness May 2021

Monday Madness was moved up to May 24 since the last Monday of the month fell on Memorial Day. The attendance was good despite the fact that many of our seasonal members had already headed north.  We were pleased to have a couple of potential new members join us.

It appears, from the number of members reporting trips, that things are beginning to move back toward normal.  It was great to share what’s transpired in our lives and catch up with the events others have experienced during the pandemic.

It seems that being confined to home has spurred several remodel projects, including kitchen, baths and flooring.  Several members are in the midst of or have just completed all sorts of remodel projects.

Monday Madness events will continue through the summer.  The next Madness will be June 28, 4:30 PM, same venue.
