Having no fear of the unknown, Judy and Larry Sacher set sail on August 7 for Fisherman’s Village for a shakedown cruise of the almost-new SACHMO (contrary to the rumor Luther Hayes has spread, the City of Marco didn’t pay for it!). It was a beautiful ride on a great day and with the help of Brent Cook, they took the outside route thru the Boca Inlet. Although the intent was to do a “bow-in” tie so that they could use “Li’l Mo”, the finger docks were too short so Larry was able to negotiate a first-time backing-up and didn’t damage anything! The Sacher’s report they had a great time, biking into Punta Gorda, having some terrific food in the mall at Fisherman’s Village, and a great meal at the River City Grille, which happens to be a sister restaurant to Naples’ Mangrove Café (and also offered a BOGO on the meal!).
Fearing that they were having too much fun, when they set sail on Saturday the 10th for Pink Shell Marina (thanks to route help from Mike Brown!) the Sacher’s were joined by the Landwaard’s in SWEET LIPS, the Skillern’s in SEA YA’LL, and WANDERER V, the Kernan’s boat piloted by John Kernan and ably assisted by Alex Orsolino, who were met by Dianne Kernan and Commodore Marsha Orsolino who drove up. Also driving up to join in the fun were the Dotterwich’s and Kalkstein’s, who stayed in the Pink Shell hotel. A fun afternoon of Mah Jong (what else?) was followed by dinner at JoJo’s, and the following day the MBYC’ers invaded Ft. Myers Beach for shopping, sightseeing and some lunch. Once again dinner was at Matanzas, and everyone left for home on Monday the 12th.
PS: the Sachers report that they LOVE the new boat!
