The Presentation of the Fleet was held Saturday, March 3 under sunny skies at the Esplanade Marina Our Bridge was aboard “TenneSea Waltz”, the Bridge Boat captained by Bob Herndon.
After our National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance, Commodore Rudi Landwaard welcomed everyone and introduced those aboard the Bridge boat.
The Bridge boat had VC Sally Orth, R/C Larry Sacher, Chaplain Alan Sandlin and FM Commodorable Dorothy Landwaard.
This presentation of the fleet symbolizes the transfer of responsibility for MBYC from the outgoing to incoming Bridge. Following a short history of MBYC reading by Vice Commodore Sally Orth, our Chaplain Alan Sandlin conducted the Blessing of the Fleet.
Traditionally we place roses in the water in remembrance of those we lost during the year, but since we didn’t lose any members, we dedicated this rose ceremony to the 17 lives that were lost in the Parkland school shooting. Our VC and R/C placed 17 roses into the water. It is also tradition to place a single rose in the water for all previous departed club members, which was done by Chaplain Alan Sandlin. We concluded with a moment of silence.
Since Fleet Captain Mike Brown could not attend, Cruise Captain Brent Cook confirmed that “the Fleet “was ready for review. 11 boats signed up for this annual tradition, The following boats proceeded past the Bridge boat, “Cookin” captained by Brent Cooke and FM Susan Cooke with guests Chris & Ann Ward, “Sonatella”, captained by Chuck Hubscher and FM Janice, “Too Many Wakes” captained by Frank Mulligan and FM Marianne with guests P/C Marcia and P/C Alex Orsolini, “My Turn” captained by Barry Gelfand with FM Claudette, “Sea Y’all” captained by Charlie Skillern and FM Paula with guests Pat & Gayle Thawley, “Lady DI” captained by Richard Clarke and FM Diana, “Swelltimes III” captained by Dennis Barnes and FM Theresa with guests, the last boat was captained by Stan Pilat and FM Bonnie with guests Bob & Margi White. We had a large contingent of our members lining the deck at the Esplanade Marina. We all enjoyed a wonderful lunch at CJ’s on the Bay.
A good time, with great fellowship was had by the close to 60 members in attendance.
