Commodore Rudi Landwaard ended his year as MBYC’s Commodore with a lovely evening. As usual his Commodorable Dorothy looked stunning.
The event was held at Hideaway Beach Resort and seventy-five members attended. The room looked very festive in blue and white. Rudi selected a beach theme. He created each of our place cards using real sand dollars for the men and starfish for the women. The theme was carried through with starfish and sand dollars in the blue and white flower arrangements.
The evening began as Rudi and Dorothy greeted each guest at the door and presented the women with a rose. There was a cocktail hour form 5:30 to 6:30 with a fabulous antipasto display.
We were all seated at 6:30 and Commodore Rudi and Dorothy were piped aboard by Alan Sandlin followed by Vice Commodore Sally Orth and Don. Rudi welcomed everyone and made a few introductions followed buy Chaplin Alan Sandlin’s invocation.
Dinner was delicious. We were served a filet of beef tenderloin with a demi glace paired with grouper, buerre blanc, roasted red potatoes and asparagus. The meal was finished off with a beautiful dome dessert.
After dinner Rudi gave a thoughtful speech thanking everyone who helped him throughout the year. He then presented the 2019 Bridge, Rear Commodore Bob White, Vice Commodore Larry Sacher and Commodore Sally Orth with their stars.
Our new Commodore Sally Orth made a brief speech introducing the new committee chairs and thanked them all for agreeing to help us all “Boat and Play with Marco Bay”.
The evening was made complete with entertainment by Michael D’Amore. Michael did an amazing job everyone seemed to really enjoy his talent. There was lots of dancing, good conversation and laughter to round out the night.
As always the staff at Hideaway did a great job. They are all so accommodating and easy to work with.
