The 46th Annual Commodore’s Ball and Change of Watch was held at Hideaway Beach Club on Saturday, January 25th. It was a wonderful evening filled with tradition, good friends and high spirits!
Commodore Sally Orth and Don greeted everyone as they arrived. The ballroom looked stunning with beautiful yellow roses and candles on the tables.
At 6:15 everyone was seated and the Incoming Commodore Larry Sacher and his First Mate Judy were piped in by Alan Sandlin followed by our Outgoing Commodore Sally Orth and Don. Sally welcomed everyone and introduced all the past Commodores that we’re present and thanked them for all they have done for MBYC. Sally then named each member that passed away this year and the Ship’s Bell was rung for each, Carol Winschitl, Robert Kuhn, Jack Coffin and Robert Bagshaw. This was followed by Alan’s very thoughtful invocation and dinner was served.
The meal was a delicious combination of beef tenderloin and red snapper topped off with an amazing flourless chocolate cake. As always Hideaway’s kitchen did not disappoint and the service was impeccable.
After dinner Sally returned to the podium to thank and recognize all our board members and this past years committee chairs. She also thanked all MBYC members for helping to make her year very rewarding.
The highlight of the evening, as always, was the Change of Watch. Sally presented our new Commodore Larry Sacher with his stars, flag, emblem and the gavel. Larry then took over the podium and introduced his board and committee chairs. Then he presented the new vice Commodore Bob White and Rear Commodore Sandy LaMontagne with their stars, flags and emblems.
The celebration continued with dancing to the music of Manhattan Connection. It was great fun!
