Loop Cruise 2016
Our cruise leader Brent Cook with First Mate Susan managed to get Dave and Mary Ellen Mount, Jack and Cheryl Coffin headed to the Legacy Marina at Fort Myers on April 13th to meet up with Ray Rosenberg and Linda Spell, who had started the day before due to their travel speed.
Mike and Cindy Brown joined us in Faro Blanco in Marathon. The group had an enjoyable dinner at the Veranda and prepared to head out for the adventure.
After a successful day on the river our first stop was Roland Martin Marina at Clewiston. The ladies were happy with the great shopping at the marina store and a nice dinner. The next stop was Sunset Bay Marina at Stuart; from there we headed to West Palm Beach at Palm Harbor Marina by way of the intercostal waterway. Mary Ellen our resident weather watcher conferred with Brent and they decided intercostal was the way to go; they had a unanimous vote of agreement from all! At West Palm some of us visited The Breakers hotel built by Henry Flagler, had lunch at the golf course and took in the Henry Flagler Museum.
Our next stop was Bahia Mar Marina in Fort Lauderdale next to a beautiful beach just across the street. The days there were spent shopping, sightseeing via water taxi and playing cards (yes, you can play Triple Canasta with three people). The Bistro Mezzaluna was a wonderful dinner trip (Uber is wonderful) and they had lighted menus, which made all of our senior eyes very happy.
All too quickly we were off to Faro Blanco, Marathon. The waters were very kind to us and it was a good trip around Miami to the beautiful water of the Keys. A lot of relaxing, cards, visiting the Turtle Hospital for those who had not been there before and a great dinner at Hideaway Café rounded out our stay there. Mike and Cindy Brown joined us at Faro Blanco. (Gals, that makes four for cards!)
Our final stop was the Galleon at Key West, always a fun place we were there for the Conch Republic Week and witnessed the reenactment of the Conch Rebellion. Dressed in period costume they battled with guns, cannons, water cannons from sailing vessels and dropped toilet paper roll bombs from airplanes flying support missions to save the Republic!!
Everyone made it back to Marco safe and sound on May 3rd.
