Boca Grand – South Seas Cruise

On January 10th six boats set sail on a three-hour cruise. If that sounds familiar it was not on the SS Minnow. Rather it was Brent Susan Cook on Cookin’, Bill Schroeder on Divergent, Bob & Sandy LaMontagne on Karine, Dave & Jackie Cox on Hoosier Daddy IV, Dave & Mary Ellen Mount on Nauti Buoy and Larry & Judy Sacher on Sachmo.

Our initial destination was Boca Grande Marina for a four night stop. This is always a popular destination that normally attracts some land yachters and this year Chuck and Janice Hubscher joined us by car and stayed at The Gasparilla Inn.

Our normal group dinner at the Eagle Grill, scheduled for January 13th was cancelled by the restaurant when the chef tested positive for Covid. Not willing to give up our one group dinner, we were able to reschedule it for Scarpa’s where we broke up into tables of 4 on their private porch. It was a fun evening with great friends and wonderful food.

Beside Mah Jongg and Mexican Train we also played the “Get a Vaccination Game” where the Sachers and Bill Schroeder scored big time with shots in Naples and Deltona.

On January 14th we bid goodbye to Bill Schroeder and the Sachers, who headed back home, while the rest of us headed down the ICW for a 12 mile ride to South Seas Resort where Cookin’, Karine, Hoosier Daddy IV and Nauti Buoy were joined by Vern & Ann Graham on O Sea D.

Lunches by the pool, shopping, golf and tennis were added to the usual days of repairing boats and enjoying each other’s company as common events during our 4 day stay. This year we got to add a “getting online for a Covid vaccination spot” but none of us had any luck with that.

The 10 of us enjoyed dinner at Doc Ford’s for our one group dinner at Captiva but individually we also dined at RC Otter, Green Flash, The Bubble Room and on our boats.

Hoosier Daddy IV had to depart one day early but the rest of us enjoyed a great return trip on calm seas on January 18th.
