Welcome Back & Aboard 2022

The Marco Bay Yacht Club Welcomed members back to the island on November 6, 2022, with a gathering at DaVinci’s Italian Restaurant on Marco Island. The club was pleased to celebrate the season with many new members and long-time friends. Everyone shared stories of their summer escapades and Ian’s impact on their homes, cars, and boats. VC Linda Gagnon introduced new members including David and Jeanette (Nettie) Petty, Steve and Kathy Stark, Brad and Mary Shaw and Dayna McKendrick (Dean was traveling).

For the business portion of the meeting Linda and Deb Lowell (Secretary) announced that Paul Shneeberger would join the bridge as Rear Commodore next year. Anna Hutchings and Steve Stark join as Directors for the class of 2025 and Bonnie Pilat joins as a Director for the Class of 2023 filling Paul’s vacant spot.

We are also excited to announce that we have expanded the berthing requirements for new members to include Port of the Isles. We have also removed residential requirement as well in the hopes that more people with boats nearby can join the fun.

The club is looking forward to a full roster of activities this season with both large vessel cruises and local day fleet events. The social activities will include our regular Monday Madness gathering at CJs, a Holiday Party on the Marco Princess and our Commodore’s Ball. Social events are being planned to include a weekly breakfast and poker for men. Ladies can enjoy games (Canasta, Maj Jongg, Mexican Train) and special First Mates events.

To keep activities rolling into 2023, we are asking people to please participate as sponsors, coordinators and assistants. If you have not done this in the past, please contact the bridge at bridge@MarcoBayYachtClub.com to volunteer. It’s the easiest way to meet your fellow club members and get the most of your membership.

We are look forward to a spectacular year with our MBYC friends.

2022 03 05 Presentation of the Fleet

On Saturday, March 5th, the Marco Bay Yacht Club celebrated their annual Presentation of the Fleet.  It was a beautiful day for the parade of boats to gather in Smokehouse Bay in front of the Esplanade Marina.

Commodore Sandy LaMontagne, Vice Commodore Linda Gagnon and Rear Commodore Charlie Erker, along with a few guests, were onboard the vessel KARINE to greet the fleet.  The ceremony started with the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance.  The club’s history was enthusiastically given by Linda Sandlin.  Alan Sandlin, Club Chaplain, gave the invocation and Blessing of the Fleet.

The Club joined in a moment of silence to honor those members who had passed and roses were placed in the water in their memory.  The Fleet Captain, Brent Cook, then acknowledged that the Fleet was ready for review and led the procession.  As the boats approached the Bridge Boat, the Captain identified his boat, himself and those aboard.  The Bridge then saluted as they passed.  There were 7 boats plus a jet ski participating in the review.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the boats were docked at the Esplanade Marina where they and the many members who watched from land enjoyed a wonderful luncheon at CJ’s on the Bay.

Welcome Back – Welcome Aboard Party

On November 7th at the Lely Players Club, 71 of our members came together for a Caribbean themed Gala event which included dinner, dancing, and raffles. This New Member/Welcome Back dinner was the first major club event in almost two years. It was also the first combined event, as we welcomed 14 new members, 5 who joined us that evening. Our new members are:

Chris and Anna Hutchings
Jean and Jenny Henzel
Jan and Larry Gates
Dave and Jackie Cox
Jim Barker and Kelly Rogers
Dave Hodgkinson and Maureen Camera
Robert and Jean Taylor
We also welcome back John and Mary Moyer, as they have rejoined the club.

First Mate Margi White and her social committee, Bonnie Pilat and Nancy Taylor, worked very hard to make this a special and memorable event. Thanks to the Pilats (Stan and Bonnie) who own a home at Lely, there was no rental fee for the facility. Bonnie is a very talented artist who made all of the favors and decorations, including a spectacular tropical flower arrangement on the buffet table and pineapple beach goers arrangement on display. The centerpieces were her creation with tiki vases and flowers. The message in a bottle at each place setting would determine the winner of each centerpiece. A message with the mermaid on it designated the lucky winners.  We danced to a great mix of oldies and Caribbean music played by DJ Jay. Lely staff was most accommodating and there were many compliments on the food and service.

Congratulations to Linda Sandlin, winner of the grand prize raffle.

At our Annual Business Meeting held at this event, Charlie Erker was elected as our next Rear Commodore and Stan Pilat, Paul Schneeberger, John Taylor and Dave Cox were elected to Director’s positions for 2023 and 2024
